BAD MOVIE REVIEW: Mosquito (1995)

The acting...bad, the special effects...horrid, the humor...absurd, the plot...non-existant, the musical score...unbearable, and yet this movie is awesomely bad. Mosquito takes everything about a bad film and makes it great. I first caught it at 3am on the SciFi channel and later bought a bootleg copy on DVD (because the real DVD goes for OVER $100.00 online)

I wasn't sure I would like it or not, being it was made in 1995, but it was made in a way that it comes off like a cheesy 80s horror flick and I loved it. You have to have a bad taste in movies to like anything about this film. It's a great film to gather a bunch of friends, get drunk, and just laugh your head off at it.

Throughout the film, there always seems to be conveniently placed items that the people in this film would so desperately need to complete whatever task they were doing. Like a well placed hatchet, TONS of rope, or even a Winnebago. I was actually quite surprised as to how well the Mosquitoes themselves were designed and moved. Most of the time they weren't half bad, unless they were moving in front of the green screen. And the make-up effects on the people that had all the blood sucked out of them was done very well. It did look like they were sucked dry, so mad props to those people. I'm just happy they didn't use any kind of CGI, which I have to give credit to the filmmakers. Though it may have been a little early to be using it in lower budget films at the time.

The main reason you need to see this movie is for Gunnar Hansen.  For those of you that don't know, he played the original Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  This time he's out slaughtering giant mosquitoes but he eventually does come across a tasty chainsaw and the film gives a special nod to TCM. "I haven't held one of these in 20 years!" YES! That's fuckin awesome.

I recommend you add this forgettable title to your bad movie collection and laugh your head off. Its all your going to get out of it. What more can you expect out of a terribly low budget horror flick?  Nothing, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
